16 years ago, from August 13-16, 2010, women from all over the world gathered in Montreal, Canada for an International Anti-imperialist Conference under the banner “For a Militant Global Women’s Movement in the 21st Century - Celebrating the Centennial of International Women’s Day”. Today, the International Women's Alliance continues to advance campaigns, to link members together, and to carry forward the militant legacy of the sisters who have been fighting for women's genuine emancipation and liberation for over a century.

The campaigns of comfort women movement have inspired thousands more women around the world to bravely stand and fight against military sexual violence that continues to be used by militaries and governments alike. Reports indicate that each year the rate of women and children exposed to violent military conflicts increases, making the campaigns for justice and recognition for comfort women more relevant than ever before. As more comfort women pass away, their legacy remains an enduring reminder and inspiration for all women experiencing militarized violence to commit unrelentingly to the pursuit of justice and to ensure our fights pave the way for a better life for future generations - free from the threat of war and the violence that accompanies it.

Overall the situation of indigenous peoples grows more dire every year because of the worsening global crises. But in the face of their struggles the fights indigenous people take up become more militant, more determined, and more important. The whole world has to join arm in arm with our indigenous brothers and sisters who are taking steps to protect their land, culture, and right to exist in a world that sees them as disposable and displaceable. IWA wishes to extend our appreciation to the organizations we have worked with who partner with indigenous women and peasant women who are on the frontlines of struggling to protect their land and our futures. IWA echoes the call of IPMSDL to mobilize and strengthen our movement for self-determination and liberation. Let us raise the call, “Indigenous Peoples, Fight for a Future Free from Attacks, Plunder & Imperialist Wars!” and calls on all our members around the world: Women: Honor Indigenous Peoples' Day! Defend the Land from Corporate Plunder!

The International Women's Alliance decries the violent kidnapping of Comrade Booker Ngesa Omole, secretary general of of the Communist Party of Marxist Kenya (CPMK), and condemns the US-backed Ruto regime for its blatant fascist attack against CPMK, their organizations, and all those fighting for the genuine liberation and sovereignty of Kenya. At the hands of the Kenya Police Service, Comrade Omole was kidnapped, tortured, and severely beaten. Police cut him with a pen knife, and broke his teeth and fingers. Afterwards he was taken to Mlolongo Police Station, an infamous site in Kenya for its systematic terror, torture and extrajudicial killings against poor Kenyans and political activists. As of February 26 Comrade Booker was transferred to Kitengela Remand Prison with a broken arm after being denied medical care and bail.
