The International Women’s Alliance calls on our sisters and allies to commemorate International Working Women’s Day alongside us. In 1917, women textile workers in Russia, while on strike, gathered women from multiple factories to demand "bread and peace" amidst an economic crisis that was heightening for the everyday people due to the world war, marking their participation and carrying out a significant contribution that led to the February Revolution. Today we see history repeating itself as workers in capitalist countries are going on strike and fighting for a better livelihood. We recognize that the increased fascist attacks against the most oppressed in the global south are due to imperialist powers tightening their hold on semi-colonies and empowering their puppet regimes to further steal the peoples wealth; and we are witnessing imperialist powers attack nations that have been asserting their sovereignty for not aligning with imperialist interests. Most of all, the imperialist powers like the United States, Russia, Japan, and China are dividing up the map, in search of more resources and using all forms of aggression through economic, political and militaristic approaches to get the best share.
It is in this context that the Executive Council of IWA calls on members to mobilize and conduct political education under the banner "Counter Rising Fascism with Working Women's Unity! Continue the Fighting Legacy of IWWD" from March 8-14 as part of Working Women's Week of Action. The strong and militant history of IWWD since 1909 shows that when working women unite to confront their exploiters, to oppose corruption, and to win genuine liberation they are an unrelenting force for change. Working women's contributions to union victories in Europe and North America, to revolutionary change in the USSR, and advancing the cause of women's equality and liberation all over the world cannot be understated. We encourage members to utilize these weeks of action to strengthen our ranks and expand the alliance to advance the militant women's movement and to win genuine change for working and oppressed women wherever we are located. Together we can confront the many crises and rising fascism and advance women's cause of national and social liberation!
