16 Years Since the Founding of IWA! Continue Building the Militant, Global Women’s Movement in the 21st Century!

16 years ago, from August 13-16, 2010, women from all over the world gathered in Montreal, Canada for an International Anti-imperialist Conference under the banner “For a Militant Global Women’s Movement in the 21st Century - Celebrating the Centennial of International Women’s Day”. On the final day of the conference the International Women's Alliance was founded as a culmination of the three days of workshops, speakers, and fellowship between attendees. In calling for the conference and launching of IWA organizers stated: "We have heard of each others’ struggles, internationally and locally, have drawn lessons from them, supported each other where possible. The time has come to link ourselves organizationally to form a powerful, progressive, anti-imperialist, women’s movement in the world!"

Today, the International Women's Alliance continues to advance campaigns, to link members together, and to carry forward the militant legacy of the sisters who have been fighting for women's genuine emancipation and liberation for over a century. IWA has grown our membership around the world and advanced our campaigns globally and on the country and local level. Our two global regions that unite members in Asia-Pacific and Europe have planned political gatherings, conferences and campaigns that brought women together across borders to advance our solidarity and sisterhood. IWA members in Canada, the United States and the Philippines have also held country-level gatherings that have carried out militant actions confronting arm-sales conferences, international governmental forums, and fascist migrant detention centers to further advance the unity of organizations on the national level.

As a network of women's organizations we have also linked arm in arm with other networks such as the Global Women United for Peace Against NATO, World Women's Conference, International League of Peoples' Struggles Commission 7 and Commission 9, and many more. IWA has also contributed to the Resist US-Led War Movement, International Peoples' Front and All Workers United! In 16 years IWA's ability to broaden our network and expand the organizations and networks we work with has only helped to advance our work and deliver greater victories for international solidarity against imperialism around the world.

As more women are pulled into poverty, starvation, and put in harm's way by war and militarism - IWA is committed to expanding and strengthening our ranks and continuing to take militant action that addresses the root causes of women's suffering in the current global system. In the coming year IWA looks forward to continuing to contribute to the Free the Migrants Campaign, the People's Global Campaign against IMF-WB and our other global campaigns: Women Against War and Militarism and Women Over Profit. We are excited to begin planning for our next international assembly in 2028 and maximizing opportunities to bring our members together to take action, deepen our bonds, and forge greater unity. We are excited to see our IWA US country chapter launch this November; and are committed to recruiting more members across Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and West Asia.

16 years after it's founding the International Women's Alliance continues to confront the state violence and economic exploitation that affect women and impedes their full participation in our society. The success of any movement could be tested on how much the women participate in it. Therefore we must persist in our campaign work and fight for the most oppressed and exploited women: the working and toiling women facing exploitation under this global system, those who experience militarism, state violence and genocide, the indigenous women fighting for their ancestral lands, those who are targeted by racism, discrimination and fascist terror, women restricted from their reproductive rights, and the women who are forced to migrate from their homelands because of all the conditions listed above. As Jose Maria Sison said on behalf of the International League of Peoples' Struggle during IWA's launching:

"We commend you for adhering to the purpose of International Women’s Day, which is to address the multiple oppression and exploitation that women suffer in the hands of the imperialists, feudalists and the patriarchalists. We agree with your determination to trace the milestones of the struggle of women for liberation and upliftment, examine the current social, economic, cultural and political situation of women, confront the rising level of class exploitation, the global economic and financial crisis, the imperialist wars and violence against women and set forth the tasks for advancing a militant global women’s movement in the 21st century."

We call on all our members, friends and allies to help us celebrate 16 years of a militant grassroots women's alliance by forwarding the calls of our campaigns during your actions, hosting activities such as plenaries, fora, workshops, etc. to discuss the need to broaden and expand the global militant women's movement, and to donate to the alliance so we can continue to advance our global campaign platforms: Women of the World Unite Against U.S. Led War, Militarism, Racism and Imperialist Intervention! and Women Over Profit! No to Monopoly Capitalism, Patriarchy, Feudalism and Class Oppression! Fight for Women's Liberation! As a volunteer-run alliance comprised of grassroots organizations from around the globe, we rely on support from our communities, partner organizations, and supportive individuals to help fund our work. We hope that you will consider supporting the alliance and view it as a contribution to the broader global women’s movement that’s fighting against exploitation, militarism, land grabbing, feudalism and for women’s liberation. It is now more than ever important for women to interrelate their particular issues and join together in our collective strength to fight for an alternative system that is based off of true democracy, justice, freedom and equality!

16 años desde la fundación de IWA! Sigamos construyendo el movimiento militante y global de mujeres en el siglo XXI!

Hace 16 años, del 13 al 16 de agosto de 2010, mujeres de todo el mundo se reunieron en Montreal, Canadá, para celebrar una Conferencia Internacional Antiimperialista bajo el lema "Por un movimiento mundial de mujeres militante en el siglo XXI: celebrando el centenario del Día Internacional de la Mujer". El último día de la conferencia se fundó la Alianza Internacional de Mujeres (IWA) como culminación de tres días de talleres, ponencias y compañerismo entre las participantes. Al convocar la conferencia y lanzar la IWA, las organizadoras declararon: "Hemos escuchado las luchas de las demás, tanto a nivel internacional como local, hemos aprendido de ellas y nos hemos apoyado mutuamente siempre que ha sido posible. ¡Ha llegado el momento de unirnos organizativamente para formar un movimiento de mujeres poderoso, progresista y antiimperialista en el mundo!".

Hoy en día, la Alianza Internacional de Mujeres sigue impulsando campañas, uniendo a sus miembros y llevando adelante el legado militante de las compañeras que han luchado por la verdadera emancipación y liberación de las mujeres durante más de un siglo. La IWA ha ampliado su membresía en todo el mundo y ha impulsado sus campañas a nivel global, así como a nivel nacional y local. Nuestras dos regiones globales, que reúnen a las miembros de Asia-Pacífico y Europa, han organizado encuentros políticos, conferencias y campañas que han reunido a mujeres de distintos países para fortalecer nuestra solidaridad y compañerismo. Los miembros de la IWA en Canadá, Estados Unidos y Filipinas también han realizado encuentros a nivel nacional en los que han llevado a cabo acciones militantes en contra de conferencias sobre venta de armas, foros gubernamentales internacionales y centros fascistas de detención de migrantes, con el fin de fortalecer aún más la unidad de las organizaciones a nivel nacional.

Como red de organizaciones de mujeres, también nos hemos unido a otras redes como Mujeres del Mundo Unidas por la Paz contra la OTAN, la Conferencia Mundial de Mujeres, la Comisión 7 y la Comisión 9 de la Liga Internacional de Luchas de los Pueblos, y muchas más. La IWA también ha contribuido al Movimiento de Resistencia contra la Guerra Liderada por EE. UU., al Frente Internacional de los Pueblos y a Todos los Obreros Unidos! En 16 años, la capacidad de la IWA para ampliar nuestra red y extender las organizaciones y redes con las que trabajamos solo ha servido para impulsar nuestro trabajo y lograr mayores victorias para la solidaridad internacional contra el imperialismo en todo el mundo.

A medida que más mujeres se ven arrastradas a la pobreza y la inanición, y expuestas a peligros por la guerra y el militarismo, la IWA se compromete a ampliar y fortalecer nuestras filas y a seguir llevando a cabo acciones militantes que aborden las causas fundamentales del sufrimiento de las mujeres en el actual sistema global. El próximo año, la IWA espera seguir contribuyendo a la Campaña "Liberen a los Migrantes", a la Campaña Global de los Pueblos contra el FMI y el Banco Mundial, y a nuestras otras campañas globales: "Mujeres contra la Guerra y el Militarismo" y "Las Mujeres sobre el lucro". Nos entusiasma comenzar a planificar nuestra próxima asamblea internacional en 2028 y aprovechar al máximo las oportunidades para reunir a nuestras integrantes con el fin de actuar, profundizar nuestros lazos y forjar una unidad mas firme. Nos entusiasma ver el lanzamiento de nuestra sección nacional de la IWA en EE. UU. este noviembre; y estamos comprometidas a reclutar más miembros en toda América Latina y el Caribe, África y Asia Occidental.

A 16 años de su fundación, la Alianza Internacional de Mujeres sigue enfrentando la violencia estatal y la explotación económica que afectan a las mujeres e impiden su plena participación en nuestra sociedad. El éxito de cualquier movimiento se puede medir por el grado de participación de las mujeres en él. Por lo tanto, debemos persistir en nuestro trabajo de campaña y luchar por las mujeres más oprimidas y explotadas: las obreras y las mujeres campesinas que enfrentan la explotación bajo este sistema global; aquellas que sufren el militarismo, la violencia de Estado y el genocidio; las mujeres indígenas que luchan por sus tierras ancestrales; aquellas que enfrentan el racismo, la discriminación y el terror fascista; las mujeres a quienes se les restringen sus derechos reproductivos; y las mujeres que se ven obligadas a migrar de sus países de origen debido a todas las condiciones mencionadas anteriormente. Como dijo José María Sison en nombre de la Liga Internacional de la Lucha de los Pueblos durante la presentación de la IWA:

"Les felicitamos por adherirse al propósito del Día Internacional de la Mujer, que consiste en abordar la opresión y la explotación múltiples que sufren las mujeres a manos de los imperialistas, los feudalistas y los patriarcales. Compartimos su determinación de repasar los hitos de la lucha de las mujeres por la liberación y la superación, analizar la situación social, económica, cultural y política actual de las mujeres, hacer frente al creciente nivel de explotación de clase, a la crisis económica y financiera mundial, a las guerras imperialistas y a la violencia contra las mujeres, y establecer las tareas para impulsar un movimiento mundial de mujeres militante en el siglo XXI".

Hacemos un llamado a todas nuestras integrantes, amigas y aliadas para que nos ayuden a celebrar los 16 años de una alianza militante de mujeres de base, difundiendo los llamamientos de nuestras campañas durante sus acciones, organizando actividades como plenarias, foros, talleres, etc., para debatir la necesidad de ampliar y expandir el movimiento militante mundial de mujeres, y haciendo donaciones a la alianza para que podamos seguir impulsando nuestras plataformas de campaña globales: Mujeres del mundo, únanse contra la guerra liderada por EE. UU., el militarismo, el racismo y la intervención imperialista! y Las mujeres sobre el lucro! No al capitalismo monopolista, al patriarcado, al feudalismo y a la opresión de clase! Lucha por la liberación de las mujeres! Como alianza gestionada por voluntarias y compuesta por organizaciones de base de todo el mundo, dependemos del apoyo de nuestras comunidades, organizaciones aliadas y personas solidarias para financiar nuestro trabajo. Esperamos que consideres apoyar a la alianza y lo veas como una contribución al movimiento global de mujeres más amplio que lucha contra la explotación, el militarismo, el acaparamiento de tierras, el feudalismo y por la liberación de las mujeres. Ahora más que nunca es importante que las mujeres relacionen sus problemas particulares y se unan en nuestra fuerza colectiva para luchar por un sistema alternativo basado en la verdadera democracia, la justicia, la libertad y la igualdad!
