Today IWA recognizes the grave atrocities brought against women due to US imperialism and global capitalism - two plagues which lead women into precarious jobs around the world, which promote education systems that teach repression, and which institutionalize violence against women as part and parcel to global plunder and greed.

We know the Afghan people will be faced with new challenges, since the Taliban’s swift assertion to power.  We must continue to denounce any attempt for U.S. imperialism or other global powers to impose its control in the region, whose only interest is not about bringing about democracy and liberation for their people, but about geopolitical control and corporate interests.

We rise against wars of aggression wherever they occur. Cases abound of how wars of aggression or intervention always trample upon women’s rights and women’s bodies, where rape becomes a heinous instrument to subjugate the population and render the populace, particularly women, into slavery and servitude. 

Nanay Mameng was one of the first recipients of IWA’s Women of Valor award, in recognition of her courage and contribution to the struggle towards national democracy and women’s emancipation in the Philippines.
