77 years of displacement, 77 years of tireless resistance!

The International Women’s Alliance joins millions of Palestinians across the world in commemorating Al-Nakba. This day marks the 1948 day of catastrophe which saw more than 750,000 Palestinians displaced from their homes and forced to move during the fascist Zionist take over of Palestine and establishment of “Israel”.

In 77 years there are now multiple generations who have marked the Nakba from the homes they established after being displaced by Zionist militias. The children and grandchildren of those who were dispossessed continue to rise up and demand the right of return – and promise that they will resist until this is won.

In the last several months the world has been reminded of the strength that Palestinians have to continue their steadfast resistance to the illegal Zionist occupation and inhuman siege of Gaza. As Zionists continue to starve Palestinians in hope of eradicating Gaza’s population Palestinians and their allies around the world have raised high the banner demanding an end to the Zionist siege and occupation once and for all.

Especially on this day IWA salutes the steadfastness of Palestinian women who have carried the revolution forward in the last 77 years. Women have been integral to the movement by carrying out militant actions; becoming nurses, teachers, doctors and journalists; bravely teaching their children their true history and the need to resist; and preserving Palestinian cultural traditions across borders.

The horrors of war have played out for the world to see – and have pushed countless people to action. We hold in high esteem the women who have had to make impossible sacrifices in the last years during the Zionist genocide of Gaza. Women who have given birth without a hospital or anesthesia, women who have found ways to continue feeding their families, women who ensure their children have a place to sleep each night not knowing what might happen. The bravery of Palestinian women cannot be understated – and we will continue fighting alongside you until all Palestinians have the right to return to their ancestral homes in Palestine without the threat of Zionist attack or retaliation.
