GABRIELA LA Strongly Condemns the US’ Escalating Imperialist Aggression Against the Venezuelan People & their National Sovereignty!
As a Filipino women’s organization fight for National Democracy in the Philippines, we call on all Filipino people to condemn this alarming act of violence and military aggression driven by the US!
The unlawful abduction of elected President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores & the illegal bombing of Caracas that killed at least 40 have come at the heels of not just several months of heightening military attack on Venezuelan boats, but of over a decade of US attempts to undermine and overthrow Venezuela’s national independence.
In kidnapping a sovereign head of state via covert military action, Trump’s fascistic regime has completely abandoned all semblance of international law. This is a blatant play at seizing Venezuela’s natural resources and striking a blow to a government that has historically resisted and ousted US colonial influences. The US empire wants to blind the people with lies and disinformation. They downplay this military takeover as a needed “regime change” and attempt to discredit Maduro with bogus drug trafficking charges.
The most recent attack on Venezuela is just another attempt from US imperialists to shatter the will of the people to submit to the desires of the ruling elite. They want us to stay silent, to let them have free reign with the world’s resources. As GABRIELA, we reject this & condemn any government leader who utilized indiscriminate bombing of innocent people and brute military force to install a puppet leader in order to charge their economic and political objectives.
Trump’s actions are an explicit example that our true enemies are the billionaires & capitalist elite who enrich themselves through the exploitation of the world’s people. Amdist the deployment of outright fascism, we must come together to defend the right of national sovereignty against imperial plunder.
We stand along side the people of Venezuela and with all oppressed peoples across the world, who have awoken to this charade and see these patterns for the lies they are!
We have experiences decades of US-backed wars all across the world; from Venezuela to Palestine to the Philippines, the US war machine has always used war and destruction to siphon resources from sovereign nations around the world to fuel its imperialist agenda. Yet at every step of the way - the people have resisted.
The Venezuelan people have the right to fight for their own self-determination and national liberation! We are in solidarity with the Venezuelan people who will fight for their country’s sovereignty and will reclaim their country’s resources for their benefit - not for foreign domination.
As Filipina women, we know the brunt of the US military. We know how it feels to be made a pawn in imperialist war games and struggles for domination. We know how military aggression invited added violence and discrimination against women. But we also know that is only with the power of the masses, consolidated into organized struggle, that we can overwhelm the power of the capitalist elite. We encourage Filipino women & the LGBTQ community to join us in our fight for our national through the US Out of the Philippines & Defend Peasant and Working Class Women against US Militarism campaigns!
