Denounce the U.S. Imperialist Invasion of Venezuela! Free President Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores Now!
MANILA, Philippines – GABRIELA, the broadest militant alliance of Filipino women, stands in fierce solidarity with the Venezuelan people as we vehemently condemn the brazen military invasion and the criminal kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores by United States special forces.
“Operation Absolute Resolve,” launched by the Trump administration on January 3, is an unmistakable act of international terrorism and a flagrant violation of national sovereignty. By launching airstrikes on Caracas and abducting a democratically elected head of state, the U.S. government has once again proven that it is the #1 terrorist globally.
Trump’s aggression follows a historic pattern of imperialist violence that has grown increasingly desperate—the hallmark of a dying empire. In a frantic bid to salvage its collapsing economy, the U.S. seeks to topple independent governments and replace them with puppet regimes that permit the limitless plunder of national resources. The U.S.' interest here is transparent: to viciously quell anti-imperialist resistance and seize control of the world's largest oil reserves. This greed was laid bare by Donald Trump's own admission that “very large United States oil companies” will now move in to “invest billions” to rebuild the very infrastructure the U.S. has spent years sabotaging. This is the logic of a predator—bombing a nation into submission only to profit from its “reconstruction.”
The U.S. uses the “war on drugs” and “anti-narcoterrorism” as a thin veil for hegemony. We, the Filipino people, know this deception well. Former President Duterte used this same flimsy excuse to normalize extrajudicial killings—a bloody campaign that served as a blueprint for the massacre of resisting Filipinos, fueled by direct U.S. military support.
From the blood-stained streets of Manila to the bombed-out neighborhoods of Caracas, the enemy of the world’s women and people is one and the same: U.S. Imperialism. Just as the international community united to hold Duterte accountable for his crimes against humanity, we must now strengthen our global solidarity to defeat U.S. terror. From its proxy wars across the globe to its direct hand in the genocide in Gaza and the current assault on Venezuela, the U.S. must be held to account.
The courage of the Venezuelan people in the face of this barbaric aggression is an inspiration. GABRIELA calls on all anti-imperialist women and forces globally to rise up and fight for these urgent demands:
• The immediate and unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores;
• End all U.S. military operations and airstrikes on Venezuelan soil immediately;
• Uphold the absolute sovereignty of the Venezuelan people to determine their own future without foreign dictate.
