No arms trade in Rotterdam! No war profiteering!
On November 30, we urgently call on all anti-war; anti-racist; climate; migrant & women's movements and all progressive forces to join us in Rotterdam as we protest against the NEDS 2023 arms fair in Ahoy Rotterdam. The annual arms fair, organised by the lobby organisation of the Dutch arms industry (NIDV), has the shameless theme of 'Sustainable Security' - the greenwashing of war and arms trade all the while we are witnessing the US- European backed Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
The past month, Israel has entered a full-blown assault on Gaza, over 10,000 Palestinian men; women and children have been slaughtered in last a few weeks. This ongoing war has no end in sight as leaders of the so-called free world continue to assert the ridiculous line of Israel's right to defend itself. Following the past years of war in Ukraine which came with the calls for more military spending, more NATO funding and membership, we see these imperialist powers are out for war, for destruction and most importantly to line their own pockets with the profits of their war machines. In the context of all this, the NEDS arms trade fair is taking place, hosting over 100 weapons companies, Elbit, Lockhead Martin and Israel Aerospace Industries -to name just three of these, making big trade deals and huge profit off the ongoing genocides taking place around the world, not only in Palestine but also in Sudan and the Congo.
Rutte is on his way out and now looking to become to next general secretary of NATO after committing an additional €5bn in military spending over the next years; this is an increase of 16% relative to the previous year's budget - which probably will work in his favour for his new job application. On November 29th and 30th, hundreds of companies and people in power will come together to discuss trade and profit, including the State Secretary of Defense. They are lobbying for Dutch weapons to contribute even more to war, genocide and human rights violations around the world. Particularly, the Israeli arms company Elbit, whose weapons are 'tested' on Palestinians has recently made a €55 million contract with the Dutch government.
From Palestine to the Philippines, from Sudan to Kashmir, and all over the globe wherever people are fighting for life and liberation, fighting for National Liberation against imperialist and colonial powers, there is war and there is profit for those in power.
As people of conscience, as people seeking liberation for all oppressed peoples, as people who adamantly resist against genocide, as freedom-loving people, as residents of Rotterdam and around the Netherlands, we are FURIOUS that these criminals dare come to our city to trade in weapons of destruction of life and land, they have no business here and we say to them you are not welcome! We will be there to disrupt their vile proceedings and let them know that they are not welcome and that we will not allow them proceed with their business as usual. Not now. Not ever!

Op 30 november roepen wij dringend iedereen op die tegen de oorlog is; anti-racistisch is; en klimaat- en vrouwenbewegingen en alle progressieve krachten om zich bij ons aan te sluiten in Rotterdam terwijl we protesteren tegen de NEDS 2023 wapenbeurs in Ahoy Rotterdam. De jaarlijkse wapenbeurs, georganiseerd door de lobbyorganisatie van de Nederlandse wapenindustrie (NIDV), heeft het schaamteloze thema ‘Duurzame Veiligheid’ – het greenwashen van oorlog en wapenhandel, terwijl we getuige zijn van de door de VS en Europa gesteunde Israëlische genocide op Palestijnen in Gaza.
De afgelopen maand is Israël een regelrechte aanval op Gaza begonnen, waarbij ruim 10.000 Palestijnse mannen, vrouwen en kinderen de afgelopen weken zijn afgeslacht. Het einde van deze voortdurende oorlog is nog niet in zicht, nu de leiders van de zogenaamde vrije wereld de belachelijke lijn van Israëls recht op zelfverdediging blijven ondersteunen. Na de afgelopen jaren van oorlog in Oekraïne, die gepaard ging met de roep om meer militaire uitgaven, meer NAVO-financiering en lidmaatschap, zien we dat deze imperialistische machten uit zijn op oorlog, op vernietiging en vooral op het vullen van hun eigen portemonnee met de winsten van hun oorlogsmachines. In de context van dit alles vindt de NEDS-wapenhandelsbeurs plaats, waar meer dan 100 wapenbedrijven, Elbit, Lockhead Martin en Israel Aerospace Industries, om er maar drie te noemen, aanwezig zijn, die grote handelsovereenkomsten sluiten en enorme winsten maken uit de aanhoudende genocides. Deze vinden plaats over de hele wereld, niet alleen in Palestina, maar ook in Soedan en Congo.
Rutte is bijna opgestapt en wil nu de volgende secretaris-generaal van de NAVO worden, nadat hij de komende jaren nog eens 5 miljard aan militaire uitgaven heeft bevestigd; dit is een stijging van 16% ten opzichte van de begroting van vorig jaar, wat waarschijnlijk in zijn voordeel zal werken bij zijn nieuwe sollicitatie. Op 29 en 30 november komen honderden bedrijven en machthebbers samen om te praten over handel en winst, waaronder de staatssecretaris van Defensie. Zij lobbyen ervoor dat Nederlandse wapens nog meer kunnen bijdragen aan oorlog, genocide en mensenrechtenschendingen over de hele wereld. Met name het Israëlische wapenbedrijf Elbit, wiens wapens op Palestijnen worden 'getest', heeft onlangs een contract ter waarde van €55 miljoen gesloten met de Nederlandse regering.
Van Palestina tot de Filippijnen, van Soedan tot Kashmir, en over de hele wereld waar mensen vechten voor hun leven en bevrijding, vechten voor Nationale Bevrijding tegen imperialistische en koloniale machten, is er oorlog en is er winst voor degenen die aan de macht zijn.
Als gewetensvolle mensen, als mensen die bevrijding steunen voor alle onderdrukte volkeren, als mensen die zich onvermurwbaar verzetten tegen genocide, als vrijheidslievende mensen, als inwoners van Rotterdam en omstreken, zijn wij WOEDEND dat deze criminelen naar onze stad durven te komen om handel te drijven in wapens voor de vernietiging van leven en land. Zij hebben hier niets te zoeken en wij zeggen tegen hen dat ze niet welkom zijn! Wij zullen er zijn om hun schandalige handelingen te verstoren. Wij laten hen weten dat ze niet welkom zijn en dat we niet zullen toestaan​​dat ze hun gang gaan. Niet nu. Nooit!
